11/2/09 - Front Street rocks Tortugas
Las Tortugas: Dance of the Dead has cosistently been one of Stu’s favorite festivals of the year to play. This year took it up a notch. The crystal clear blue skies were in stark contrast to last year’s rain, and the folks were ready to rage night after night. Every night is Halloween at this festival, and momentum had not been lost when Front Street took the stage Sunday evening to do their thing. A special surprise was in store, as Billy Kreutzman was in the house, and joined the boys on second kit for the whole set!! Great interactions and big smiles ensued as the then six-piece band laid down some colossal jams. Be sure not to miss this festy next year, as there really is nothing else like it! Stu plans to be there, too . . .
11/1/09 - Stu Debuts The Ghosts of Electricity
What better night could there be to debut a band called “The Ghosts of Electricity” than Halloween? The band’s name is a reference to lyrics from the Bob Dylan song “Visions of Johanna”, and it was all Bob Dylan songs all night at Ashkenaz in Berkeley. Stu was joined by “Stu and Friends” veterans Mark Karan, Mookie Siegel, Robin Sylvester, Greg Anton, and Pat Nevins. Attendees came costumed as characters from Dylan lore to add to the fun as the band played four hours of music - wow. The band was joined by Wavy Gravy to start their second set who delivered a special tribute to the late Norton Buffalo, who had passed away the night before - RIP, Norton.
After rave reviews of the show, people have been wondering what lies in this band’s future, to which Stu replies, “Pulling off this one show was demanding enough that I hadn’t afforded it much thought beyond that. That being said, we had a lot of fun doing it, and there’s enough buzz about it that I certainly wouldn’t rule out having another go at it.”
9/1/09 - Jimmy Tebeau Joins JGB Band
Jimmy Tebeau has assumed bass duties in the JGB Band. He replaces Rob Wenig, who left the band following it’s final performance of August. Jimmy brings with him over twenty years experience playing Grateful Dead and JGB music in the Schwag, the tribute band that he founded in St. Louis all those years ago.
6/18/09 - Lineup Confirmed for Stu & Friends
Stu has something special in store for you folks. In an encore to the Stu Allen & Friends show at 19 Broadway last month, Stu will reunite the rhythm section from that show on June 26th at Pier 23 for “Jam on the Bay” presented by Tom Murphy Presents. In addition to Robin Sylvester (Ratdog) on bass and Greg Anton (Zero) on drums, Stu will be joined by “the master of the universe” himself, Melvin Seals on organ. Should be fun . . .
3/3/09 - Stu Heads to St. Louis, City of Blues
At a time when everything seems to be changing, Stu will not be left out. He has left the gentle climes of the San Francisco Bay for the rolling thunder of St. Louis. There, Stu assumes the role of lead guitar and vocals with The Schwag, Missouri’s Dead tribute. Californian fans are not to worry, Stu will return. In the words of your Governor, “I’ll be back.”
2/27/09 - Farewell to Workingman’s Ed (2006 - 2009)
All things must come to an end, and WE found its end Thursday night at the Boom Boom Room. Stu wishes to thank all the fans who made the scene “an intensified but relaxed vibe, yearning and loving; a magnified present moment.” Band members will move on to focus on other projects.
